Off The Mark, On The Rise!

In this, second weekend of February, there was an absolute barrage of athletics meets scattered across the peninsula. Below is a snapshot report back on all the efforts of our Off The Mark stars in the making.

On Friday afternoon Bishops held their Prep School athletics meet to kick the weekend off. Well done to Noah and Cameron on finishing in 2nd and 5th place respectively, in their respective age groups - They are both continuing to improve their skills on the track.

Saturday morning saw the SACS Junior School athletics day take place. The u9 80m sprint saw Matt (2nd), Jake (3rd) and James (4th) come across the line virtually next to each other. These three boys train in a small group with us and there is never anything between them. Kudos to the officials for having the guts to make a call on this one, and well done to all three boys on a great race.

Staying at SACS, a massive congrats goes out to Jack Benade for showing great all-round talent to win the 1200m and 100m final within the space of 30 minutes. Jack also went on to help his team to win the 4x 100m relay.

Moving over to Rondebosch Prep School, Matthys Du Plooy dominated the sprint events, albeit in some close races, by claiming the 75m, 100m and 200m titles.

"...BROKE THE 800m RECORD THAT HAS BEEN STANDING FOR DECADES!"

Abdul Kerbelker set the Wynberg Boys Junior meet alight by breaking the 800m record that had been standing for decades. Abdul also showed his versatility by winning the 100m. This added to the 1500m which took place last week.

Reddam House hosted an inter-schools athletics meet which doubled as the Zonal Champs for the Southern Zone. There were some really standout performances. Georgia and Abigail claimed 1st and 2nd respectively in the u12 Girls 1200m. Kiara placed a close 3rd in the u12 Girls 150m event, while Rebecca dominated the u13 1500m and 800m events with a first place in both.

Mention must be made to those who competed in their respective sports days earlier in the week such as our Camps Bay and St Cyprians athletes who competed in their zonals last Monday. Kian Galiem won his 100m by a comfortable margin. Annablu Bergstrom came 4th in the u12 1200m and 2nd in the 100m, and Lulu Bergstrom came 4th in the u11 1200m.

And after such a busy start to February, we at Off The Mark can only congratulate all of our athletes. You all have put the work in and it's paid off. We're extremely proud of all of you right now, and to be honest we can't wipe the smiles off of our faces right now.

Sean
