We see the technique assessment as the most fundamental step of an athletes’ running career. Before you sacrifice hours of training time it makes sense to find out if we are doing things correctly. Studies have shown that two thirds of the world’s running population will statistically get injured every year. The main reason for this is because we are never taught how to run...we are only ever told how far to run and how fast to run. If we weren’t taught the correct technique in other sporting codes we would be susceptible to injuries performing those particular skills too. But in these sports, learning the skills is considered the fundamental phase in entering into the sport, and we wouldn’t dare put a baseball player on the park without making sure that he knows how to hold a bat, for example. Why should running be any different? After we capture footage of you running, we engage in a comprehensive analysis of your running technique. We then identify the areas that need to be worked on going forward and make sure that we implement them in your training plan, and if needs be schedule some one-on-one sessions to correct your form. We find that seeing the athlete once per week is adequate, but this does depend on the athlete doing their ‘homework’. Doing their practise drills at home is critical to honing the new skills.
